I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Those are the words that thousands President-Elect Barack Obama will say as he is sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. But as much excitement that has been created on election day when America elected the first African-American as president, there is just as much excitement when it comes to the day where Barack Obama will be sworn-in on Inauguration Day. Senator Dianne Feinstein, chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, has said that the theme for the 2009 presidential inauguration is, “A New Birth of Freedom.” It commemorates the 200thanniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln who spoke those words in the Gettysburg address.
Well how does one become part of one of the most monumental and unique days in our nations history? You may think that you’ll have to know someone deep on the inside of Washington or pay a lofty price to obtain tickets to the Inauguration Day swearing-in ceremony. Well depending on where you’re at, you could be right about one thing, but it’s not exactly what you think. You may see on Ebay or online ticket selling locations saying that they have inauguration tickets or that they are offering them and the price of one could be in the hundreds or thousands. Don’t be fooled by that. The public should be aware that no website or other ticket outlet has inaugural swearing-in tickets to sell, no matter what they say.
There are 240,000 tickets to the Inaugural Ceremonies that were created and at this time they are in a secure location. The tickets are provided for free and are distributed through members of Congress. If anyone wants a ticket, he or she should contact their member of the U.S. House of Representatives or U.S. Senator. The only thing that you’ll have to pay for is your plane ticket (or gas money) to Washington, D.C..
Not for nothin’, but there’s 535 people you can get these tickets from, so that averages out to a few hundred each. With the amount of people already wanting to go and looking for tickets, if you haven’t asked already, you may be too late.
