A Mass Shooting Gone Too Far

A mass shooting, gone too far would be a little misleading, seeing that most mass shootings are already past the point of sanity.  But in Sunday’s mass shooting in North Carolina could be considered the most insane of them all.  A gunman opened fire at a nursing home, killing eight people, all but one ranging between the ages of 78 to 98.  Seven patients of the nursing home and one nurse were slain, and several others injured including a police officer who was actually instrumental in bring the assault to a halt.

The shooting at the Pinelake Health and Rehab Center in Carthage North Carolina, happened at approximately 10am.  In the following investigation, he shooter has been identified as 45-year-old Robert Stewart.  Stewart, who was shot himself, is now in custody of the local sheriffs department and is face multiple murder charges at the least, and a host of questions, likely at the top of the list is “why?”

At this point the motive is unknown, as Stewart is not an employee at the home, nor does he have any relatives there.  This would pose a hurdle in investigations as detectives piece together the circumstances of the incident.  Fortunately he’s still alive to help bridge some of the gaps, but the same cannot be said for most of the perpetrators of the string of fateful mass shootings that has been happening over the past few years.  This is the 11th deadly shooting involving multiple victims in the past ten years since the most publicized one at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado.  Usually they involve juveniles and schools who usually all end up killing themselves.  Now we have seven people, who were already in the twilight of their lives, gunned down to their deaths, for no apparent reason at all.

Not for nothin’, but someone has some s’plainin to do.  If this is the one mass shooting that has gone too far, maybe he should answer for the other handful of mass shootings where victim’s family members have no one else to blame.
